Registration Open for Saturday's Trail of Two Cities

The 18th annual 5K walk and run connects Ocean City and Somers Point.

The 18th annual Trail of Two Cities 5K Walk and Run from Ocean City to Somers Point takes place on Saturday, Nov. 2, starting at 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the event will raise money for the Somers Point Foundation for Education and Ocean City children’s recreation programs.

This popular walk and run brings the neighboring cities together while celebrating community pride, awareness and health. The 5K Walk and Run will begin at the Ocean City Transportation Center, 10th Street & Haven Ave., Ocean City, and will end at John F. Kennedy Park in Somers Point. The entire course will be police patrolled and the Route 52 Causeway will be closed to vehicles from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Race participants will compete for medals in the following age groups who finish in under 40 minutes: under 9 years, 9 -11 years, 12 - 14 years, 15 - 19 years, 20 - 29 years, 30 - 39 years, 40 - 49 years, 50 - 59 years, 60 - 69 years and 70 years and older. Awards will also be give to the fastest overall male and female.  The Trail of Two Cities awards ceremony will take place at John F. Kennedy Park after all participants have completed the course. Refreshments will also be available at the conclusion of the race.

Pre-registration will soon be open and the fee will be $25 per person if received by Wednesday, October 30. The first 300 registrants are guaranteed long sleeve T-shirts commemorating the event.

Registration forms can also be downloaded at www.somersptschools.org (click on Foundation for Education), or requested by contacting the Foundation for Education at (609) 927-2053, ext. 3101. Pre-packet pickup is strongly recommended and will take place onFriday November 1 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1735 Simpson Ave. Day-of-race registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Ocean City Transportation Center, located at 10th and Haven Avenue and the fee is $30 per person.

Families of up to four can pre-register for a discounted rate of $70 for the group; however separate registration forms are required for each family participant and all hard copy registration forms must be mailed together.

Buses at John F. Kennedy Park in Somers Point will be available to transport runners/walkers to Ocean City to register and/or start the race. Buses will also be available to transport participants who need to return to Ocean City at the conclusion of the race and awards ceremony.
