'Magical Mondays' at Wonderland Pier Start With Mahar Benefit

A weekly unlimited rides promotion on Monday afternoons benefits local charities.

“Magical Mondays” at  started Aug. 1 with a benefit for the family of Jim Mahar, a 12th Street resident who died suddenly in June at age 53.

The weekly event is open to the public and includes unlimited rides 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays with the purchase of a $20 wristband. All proceeds benefit local charities.

The first "Magical Monday" of the season on Aug. 1 saw proceeds go to the Thomas, Victor and Carmella Mahar’s Scholarship Fund.

Mahar, a husband and father of three, owned the Decompression Wear screen-printing and embroidery company and Point Storage in Somers Point. He was a well-liked figure in his hometown of Ocean City. He died of a heart attack on June 19.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Williams), and their three children, Thomas (13) Victor (11) and Millie (8).

"Magical Mondays" continue for four more weeks with the following beneficiaries:

  • August 8: Cystic Fibrosis Families
  • August 15: The HERO Campaign (for designated drivers)
  • August 22: Betsy Young Family
  • August 28: United Way
