Sunday Could Bring the Winter's First Real Snow

A small amount of accumulation is possible as a coastal storm moves out to sea.

A coastal storm tracking to the south and east of Ocean City on Sunday (Feb. 19) could leave the region with the winter's first significant coating of snow.

The exact track of the storm is still uncertain, but the National Weather Service is calling for a rainy start to Sunday morning before the weather turns to snow in the afternoon and into the evening. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Dan Skeldon, meteorologist with the local NBC40 News, is calling for a good chance of some "accumulating light snow" starting Sunday afternoon.

The storm could also bring some of the winter's best waves — with northeast winds expected to kick up five- to six-foot surf as the storm moves past. The marine forecast calls for the winds to shift from the northeast to the north on Sunday.

The ocean water temperature was 42.6 degrees at Steel Pier in Atlantic City on Thursday night.
