Red Raiders Capture First Track State Championship

Ocean City boys' track team outscores Oakcrest to win title.

The disappointment of not repeating as sectional champions lasted just one week for the Ocean City High School boys' winter track squad. The Red Raiders scored 48 points to edge Oakcrest by nine to capture the NJSIAA Group III State Championship in Toms River. The championship comes just a week after Oakcrest topped Ocean City to win sectionals. "Overall, it was a great day for us," Ocean City senior Miles Schoedler. "It was a historic day for us. It was our first state title in track." The Red Raiders entered the event focused on individual performances, but that changed when Schoedler and Erik Johnson finished first and second, respectively, in the 1,600-meter run. Schoedler finished the mile in 4:16.57 seconds, and Johnson came in at 4:…

Red Raiders Boys' Track Finishes Second at Sectionals

Oakcrest sweeps a sprint event to win the title.

It took 6.70 seconds for the Ocean City High School winter track boys' team to realize it wouldn't repeat as sectional championships. The Red Raiders scored points in more events, and had a better all-around performance at this year's Group III South sectional championships in Toms River than last year, but finished in second place. Oakcrest, which swept the top three places in the 55-meter dash, won the sectional championship with 70 points. The Red Raiders finished second with 45 points. The Falcons' sweep in the event meant 24 points. "I expected Oakcrest to give us trouble," said Ocean City's Miles Schoedler, who set two group sectional records. "I was ready to double, and even triple in order to help my team win a championship.  …

Schoedler Wins Mile Race At New Balance Grand Prix

The Ocean City senior wins after mad dash to Boston.

Miles Schoedler is known to cover great distances in a short amount of time, but he may have even topped himself this weekend. The Ocean City High School senior was supposed to miss the New Balance Grand Prix meet in Boston, opting instead to help his winter track team defend its sectional title in Toms River. That all changed when the sectionals were pushed back a week. Schoedler, who signed a letter of intent to run for Georgetown University on Thursday, learned of the postponement at noon Friday, and was booked on a plane to Boston by 1 p.m. Schoedler went on to win the boys one-mile run with a time of four minutes, 16.92 seconds on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center on the campus of Roxbury Community College. "The whole process was …
