Broadway singers Nat Chandler and Terri Dale Hanson join the Ocean City Pops 8 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, July 17) for a "Mancini and Moonlight" concert on the Ocean City Music Pier. The event is the latest in a series of ongoing summer concerts for the popular local orchestra. The concert will feature the timeless tunes of Henry Mancini, including Moon River and Days of Wine and Roses, and orchestral features such as The Baby Elephant Walk, Theme from Peter Gunn and The Pink Panther. In recognition of the generous support of Kay and Frank Manco to the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, an elegant "black tie invited" dinner will be held Sunday, June 10 at the Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point. This event is hosted by the Friends of the Ocean City Pops and details are as follows: The event celebrates the Manco's generous support of the Ocean City Pops Orchestra. Their beloved pizzeria, Manco & Manco, is the lead sponsor for the current Pops season. The Friends of the Ocean City Pops have lined up a fabulous evening of food and entertainment. Performers include Pops flutist Pamela Whitman and Pops pianist Jeffrey Uhlig, harpist Stephanie Sussmeir, along with tenor Jeffery Halili and baritone Dominic Inferrera.

The Friends of The Ocean City Pops awarded prizes to eight students in the second annual Esther C. Weil Student Music Competition on May 15 on the Ocean City Music Pier. Eighteen students in grades 9 to 12 and enrolled in eight high schools in Atlantic and Cape May counties competed. They qualified based on their talent, outstanding credentials, and recommendations from their music teachers. The competitors were made up of 11 vocalists and seven instrumentalists (including two pianists). A total of eight students were awarded prizes: first, second, third, and — because of an anonymous donation from an audience member — a fourth. The Ocean City Pops orchestra is preparing to open its 2011 season on Sunday (June 26) with a concert featuring singer Lucie Arnaz, the 59-year-old daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Music lovers will be anxious to hear the Latin flair Arnaz brings to the Ocean City Music Pier for the 7:30 p.m. performance, but Pops devotees also know that Sunday marks the beginning of a summer-long celebration of William Scheible's 25th season as artistic director of the orchestra.
