More than six months after Superstorm Sandy caused unprecedented damage to the Jersey Shore region, the beaches will be open for Memorial Day Weekend and the summer. While certain access points and facilities might be closed as municipalities continue to work on restoration, for the most part, the beaches will be operational. The borough was home to a breach that split Ocean County's northern barrier island in half and was one of the hardest hit communities in New Jersey during the storm. Brick office receives more staff as summer influx expected; Ocean City office permanently destroyed, LBI office renovated
Comcast has said it has rebuilt 144 miles worth of cable infrastructure since Superstorm Sandy struck the Shore area and has hired extra staff for coastal area offices as an influx of seasonal customers is anticipated. Additional customer service employees and 170 extra technicians are to start work May 25, the company said in a statement this week. Additionally, at the company's offices in Brick, Absecon, Avalon, Northfield, Ocean City and Wildwood, the number of workstations "has been nearly doubled to provide more expedited, one-on-one attention for customers," the company said. This week's "Then and Now" features a home standing on the northwest corner of 17th Street and Wesley Avenue. The home at 1644 Wesley was built for Marion Lake of the Lake family by a local contractor, Allen Scull. It is shown in the first image shortly after it was completed circa 1920. The second image shows the home as it appears today. It was renovated and converted into a duplex in the late 1990s. This week's "Then and Now" features the building located at the corner of Eighth Street and Haven Avenue. The building was known as Redman Hall when it was built in the early 1920s and has served a variety of uses through the years. It was was the resort's most popular fraternal, social and sports center and held basketball games, dances and meetings. It was later home the Sentinel-Ledger and converted to its current business use in the early 1960s. Redman Hall was built for the Kalmia Tribe #220 by William H. Smith-Builder at a cost of $75,000. Smith was a past sachem of the Kalmia Tribe. An article ran in the Nov. 22, 1923 edition of the Ocean City Sentinel-Ledger about the grand opening ceremony to be held on Nov. 24, 1923. It was to …

Atlantic City Electric's outage map shows few outages in Ocean City.
Friday night's storm, which left more than 100,000 people in the region without power, left Ocean City mostly unscathed after its wake. Neighboring Atlantic County, however, experienced widespread outages that have persisted into Sunday. According to Atlantic City Electric's outage map on Sunday, there were approximately fewer than 20 outages left in Ocean City, while tens of thousands remained effected in Atlantic County, from Atlantic City through Northfield, Linwood and Somers Point and west into Egg Harbor Township and Mays Landing. Power is partially restored across the Ninth Street Bridge in Somers Point. This week's "Then and Now" features the property located at 924 Ocean Avenue. The home was built in 1920 and is shown in the first image circa 1940. The home was owned by the Morrison Family from 1942 to 1961. The Morrisons ran it as a guest house prior to building the Forum Motor Inn. The home was later owned by the Unger Family from 1963 to 1972 and has been operated as a B&B through the years. The home still stands today and is a private residence as shown in the second image. Department of Transportation gives tour of bridge, fishing piers
The goal was met. The Route 52 causeway is open, a couple weeks before Memorial Day weekend. Department of Transportation officials gave a tour of the $400-million project, including the fishing piers and the still under construction visitors' center on Wednesday afternoon.
