Music Pier Contests Continue Tuesday With More Food Sculpting

A series of family events takes place 11 a.m. every day this week on the Ocean City Music Pier.

A week-long series of contests on the Ocean City Music Pier started Monday with a test of creativity in sculpting salt water taffy (with the raw material provided courtesy of Shriver's). For families like the Leisters, who were visiting from Downingtown, Pa., the contests have provided a source of both fun and tradition. Mom — Becky Leister — was the big winner on Monday with a red second-place ribbon for her 3-D depiction of corn on the cob. The Leisters and scores of other families crowded the Music Pier pavilion on Monday as passing showers moved by outside. July Jubilee Contests on Music Pier Start Today

Food-sculpting and other contests are scheduled for 11 a.m. every day this week.

"Kids" from age 4 to 40-something are invited to play with their food this week. A week-long series of contests on the Ocean City Music Pier provide a test of creativity in sculpting taffy, french fries and cookies, among other artistic media. Contestants are broken down into age brackets from 5-and-under to adult, and compete to come up with the most creative sculptures. Winners are awarded ribbons. The series of free family-friendly contests continues all week and leads to the city's annual Fourth of July celebration. All contests begin 11 a.m. at the Music Pier. The contests are free, but pre-registration is required. Just show up about 20 minutes ahead of time.

Fine Art in a French-Fried Motif: Contest Week Continues

Tuesday's competition in a week of family-friendly contests at the Ocean City Music Pier involved sculpting french fries.

Ocean City's July Jubilee contests continued Tuesday with more playing with food—sculpting French fries to be exact. The Promenade Food Court at Seventh Street and Boardwalk provided the artistic materials, and more than 100 contestants of all ages set to work creating art out of potato. The French-Fry Sculpting Contest was part of a week of family-friendly competitions on the Ocean City Music Pier. Contestants were broken down into age brackets from 5-and-under to adult, and competed to come up with the most creative sculptures. Winners were awarded ribbons.
