Ocean City Weekend: Hay Rides, Junior Miss O.C., Railroad Run, Classic Cars

Check the highlights of weekend events in Ocean City.

Here are some highlights of the weekend events schedule in Ocean City:

Saturday, Oct. 19

THE RAILROAD RUN: 5K Run/ Walk to benefit the Ocean City Historical Museum. Registration 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Stainton Senior Center, 18th St. side of the Ocean City Community Center (18th and Simpson). Race begins 10 a.m. rain or shine. Pre-race registration $20 or $25 day of the event. Registration forms available at www.ocnj.us., the Ocean City Historical Museum or Aquatic and Fitness Center, 17th and Simpson Ave. For information, call (609) 399-1801.

HAY RIDES: The Boardwalk Merchants Association and Shirt Shack at 808 Boardwalk are sponsoring free hayrides on the Ocean City Boardwalk noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20. Pick up and drop off locations will be at Moorlyn Terrace and 12th Street. In lieu of trick-or-treating at the boardwalk stores, kids can stop by the Ocean City Music Pier after a hayride to receive a Halloween treat. At the same time, Playland's Castaway Cove (10th and Boardwalk) will be open for one more day of rides noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Playland will offer $10 wristbands good for unlimited rides.

JUNIOR MISS OCEAN CITY PAGEANT: 7 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Tickets are $10 at the Music Pier Box Office. Scholarship Pageant is for girls 12 to 15 years of age. Sunday, Oct. 20

SOUTH JERSEY CRUISERS CLASSIC CAR RUN: Approximately 200 cars will arrive in Ocean City between 11: 45 a.m. and noon and park at the lot across from the Flanders Hotel, 11th and Ocean Ave. Included will be Street Rods, Classic Cars and cars from the 60s and 70s as well as contemporary Camaros and Mustangs. This year there will be a commemorative t-shirt offered at the staging area. Contact Ben Notaro (856) 692-8930.

AMERICANS MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER: 8:30 a.m. registration at the Ocean City High School Football Field. Parking is available at 5th and Boardwalk. This walk is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite a community to honor breast cancer survivors. It raises awareness about steps we can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer and raises money to help the American Cancer Society lead the fight against this disease. It provides ground breaking breast cancer research, information and support 24-7, plus access to mammograms for women who need them. For information visit www.makingstrideswalk.org/southjersey.
