Halloween Events in Ocean City

Check schedule of hay rides, haunted houses, Halloween parades and parties, and trick-or-treating in Ocean City.

October brings its usual array of hay rides, haunted houses, Halloween parades and other events that culminate with traditional trick-or-treating on Oct. 31.

An uninvited guest — Superstorm Sandy — spoiled last year's festivities with her arrival on Oct. 29, 2012, so this year's events may be doubly festive. Here are some of the highlights of the Halloween season:

KID-FRIENDLY HAUNTED HOUSE:
The Ocean City Repertory Theater presents its third annual "Well Lit, Less Scary, 'Trick or Treat' Tour" from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 to 20 (Friday through Sunday) and Oct. 25 to 31 (Friday through Halloween). The $5 admission allows costumed children (dressing up is not mandatory) to wander through a non-scary haunted house that weaves through decorated scenes and includes games, face-painting, bubbles, balloons and more. There will be Goblin Gift Bags for all children. For more info or to make reservations, call 609-457-6686 or visit http://www.ocrep.org/

FREE HAY RIDES ON THE BOARDWALK: The Boardwalk Merchants Association and Shirt Shack at 808 Boardwalk are sponsoring free hayrides on the Ocean City Boardwalk noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20. Pick up and drop off locations will be at Moorlyn Terrace and 12th Street. In lieu of trick-or-treating at the boardwalk stores, kids can stop by the Ocean City Music Pier after a hayride to receive a Halloween treat. At the same time, Playland's Castaway Cove (10th and Boardwalk) will be open for one more day of rides noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Playland will offer $10 wristbands good for unlimited rides.

HALLOWEEN PARADE: The annual Ocean City Exchange Club Halloween Parade invites costumed children, groups and floats to parade down Asbury Avenue from Sixth Street to 11th Street at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. Website registration only through Oct. 23 at www.ochp.blogspot.com. For information, call the Info Hotline at 800-813-5580.
