Coast Guard Auxiliary to Promote Safety at A.C. Powerboat Show

The Atlantic City International Powerboat Show runs Feb. 5 to 9 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary will be in attendance at this year's Atlantic City Indoor Powerboat Show, which runs from Wednesday, Feb. 5, through Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

The U.S. Coast Guard will have a 25-foot Rescue Boat-Small, a semi-ridged rapid response boat, available for public inspection. The USCG Auxiliary members will be on hand to offer information and ideas on recreational boating safety, Auxiliary public education classes, free vessel safety exam, the benefits of joining the Auxiliary, and communicate essentials about ongoing U.S. Coast Guard initiatives pertinent to the waters of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

This year the Auxiliary will be emphasizing such joint missions as Operation Clear Channel, Operation Stars and Stripers and the ongoing America' Waterway Watch. they will also provide guidance on the increasing popularity of "paddle sports" and its safety issues.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is celebrating its 75th year as the civilian volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard. The Auxiliary was created in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserve and re-designated the Auxiliary in 1941. The Auxiliary's 30,000 plus volunteer men and women donate millions of hours in support of Coast Guard missions.
