The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory in effect through 5 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 7) that calls for temperatures that will feel like 10 to 15 degrees below zero (wind-chill values).

The air temperature will fall 3 to 5 degrees each hour on Monday night and reach a low of 11 degrees while gusty westerly winds hit 35 to 45 mph.

The wind will continue on Tuesday while the high temperature reaches only 16 degrees.

The advisory warns that the arctic air may freeze car radiators and plumbing along non-insulated walls and crawlspaces. Leaving a trickle of water flowing from a faucet can minimize the formation of ice in pipes where marginal insulation exists, according to the Weather Service. Turning up home thermostats also can serve as a deterrent to pipes freezing along the outside edge of homes.

The advisory also warns that the dangerous combination of cold air and wind could lead to hypothermia and frostbite for anybody exposed to the conditions for long.

While some New Jersey schools have announced delayed openings, the Ocean City School District will operate on a normal schedule on Tuesday.

Temperatures will begin to return to normal on Wednesday. The forecast calls for sun and high temperatures in the upper 20s. Thursday's high is expected to be in the lower 40s.

Don't even think of going surfing.....unless you're going to Hawaii. Drain all outside exposed pipes !
