The Ocean City Fire Department invites the public to its annual Open House 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 10) at the station at Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue.
The annual event coincides with national Fire Prevention Month and gives the community a chance to learn more about how the department works.
The event will be catered to families and include a display of the department's newly acquired storm vehicles, a car-cutting demonstration and games for kids. Many of the activities at the Open House are geared toward teaching children how to act and react in a fire situation. From learning to "get low and go" in a smoke-filled home (a trailer mocked up as a house) to using a fire extinguisher to douse flames, Ocean City youth got a chance to learn by doing.
Off-duty firefighters from Ocean City Firefighters FMBA Local 27 volunteer their time to help produce the event, which is free to everybody. It includes complimentary hot dogs and pretzels.
