Soccer Game Raises More Than $1,000 for Betsy Young Scholarship

The Sept. 18 event featured a friendly match between the Ocean City Nor'easters and a team of Ocean City school faculty and others.

The Betsy Young Memorial Soccer Game on Sunday, Sept. 18, helped raise $1,089 toward a creating a scholarship in Young's name.

Young was a long-time music teacher at Ocean City Intermediate School who died Aug. 29 after battling brain cancer. The scholarship will help musicians from Ocean City High School fund college studies.

The event was organized by 2011 Ocean City High School graduate Amanda Thomas, a former student of Young's (and a regular Ocean City Patch contributor).
