Ocean City Report: 14th Street Pier Open House, Council Meeting

Everything you need to know about the day ahead.

Thursday's weather promises to be cloudy and cooler with a small chance of showers, but it looks as if the weather should hold for the second of three open houses on the 14th Street Pier.

The Ocean City Fishing Club, celebrating its centennial year in 2013, invites folks to attend an open house 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The event gives anybody a chance to tour the pier, which is normally closed to the public.

The Thursday forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 82 and a northeast wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

The northeast sea breeze usually brings warm water and cool air. The ocean temperature was down to 67 degrees by noon on Wednesday, but a steady onshore wind likely will push it back up over the magical 70-degree mark. Look for small and choppy surf.

High tide is at 10:13 a.m. on the ocean side on Thursday, and low tide at 4:19 p.m.

Residents in the neighborhoods near 34th Street may be interested in an agenda item scheduled for the City Council meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ocean City Free Public Library. Council will consider an ordinance that would dramatically increase the fines for trucks taking shortcuts off 34th Street.

City Council also will consider an ordinance that provides more relief for owners rebuilding in the aftermath of Sandy.
