Ocean City Dodges Snowstorm on Tuesday

The storm leaves only a trace amount of snow accumulation in Ocean City.

A fast-moving storm that dumped as much as 5 inches of snow on parts of eastern Pennsylvania left little accumulation in Ocean City on Tuesday (Dec. 10).

Forecasters had called for 2 to 4 inches for coastal New Jersey in a winter weather advisory issued on Monday. But with temperatures remaining above freezing into mid-afternoon, most of the precipitation came in the form of rain and sleet, which ended by about 3 p.m.

Ocean City streets showed no accumulation. Grass surfaces, sidewalks and the Ocean City Boardwalk saw only a trace amount of snow.

The air temperature is expected to fall on Tuesday night, reaching a low of 22 degrees. The predicted high temperature for Wednesday is 30 degrees with a return of the sun.

The mercury is not expected to rise above 32 degrees again until Friday — with sun and a predicted high of 39 degrees.

Unlike many school districts, Ocean City did not cancel classes on Tuesday. But students were dismissed early on a half-day, and all after-school activities were canceled.

The Ocean City Community Center (including the Ocean City Free Public Library and Ocean City Aquatics and Fitness Center) will remain open on a normal schedule. With the cancellation of high-school sports practices, the Aquatics Center will add two hours of open and lap swimming.
