Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect for Wednesday

Rain and strong northeast winds will combine to bring rough surf and tidal flooding.

Northeast winds that could increase to near gale force by Thursday will cause minor tidal flooding up and down the New Jersey coastline.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory in effect from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 9). High tide in Ocean City on the bay side at the Ninth Street Bridge is 12:56 p.m.

But forecasters say the combination of increasing wind and building surf could create an even greater risk of flooding on Thursday.

Afternoon high-tide cycles on Friday and into the weekend could still be affected by the nor'easter conditions.

Seas of 6 to 9 feet could contribute to minor beach erosion, and heavy rain could add to street flooding. Residents of flood-prone streets in Ocean City should consider moving their vehicles to higher ground.

Rain is possible starting Wednesday evening and probable for Thursday and Friday. Rainfall totals could reach several inches along portions of the coast, according to the National Weather Service.

The ocean water temperature was 68 degrees on Tuesday evening.
