Segway Tours of Ocean City Causeway Start Next Week
Take a low-speed tour of the Route 52 causeway between Somers Point and Ocean City.
A new company plans to offer visitors a unique view of the new Route 52 causeway between Somers Point and Ocean City.
Starting next week, Somers Point Bridge Tours LLC will lead excursions across the two-mile causeway on Segways. The low-speed, two-wheeled, electric vehicles will allow riders to enjoy views of Great Egg Harbor Bay, the wetlands and Ocean City.
Guided tours will be offered daily at 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Jennifer Waters Dahl said on Wednesday that the tours will open for the summer on Monday (July 8).
The tours will take advantage of a new path for pedestrians and bicycles that is separated from the four lanes of traffic on the causeway.
Reservations are recommended and mid-day tours will be available by appointment only.

Tours will start at the Somers Mansion, where Dahl says the company has a land use permit from the state. The tours will extend to the new Ocean City Welcome Center and include the fishing piers. At the end of each tour, riders will be given a drink coupon to use at Gregory's Bar and Restaurant, near Somers Mansion in Somers Point.
Helmets are required and provided (and sanitized after each tour). Parking is available in the lower lot across from the Point Diner near the Somers Point end of the Route 52 causeway. The staging/training area is the Somers Mansion upper lot.
The tour with training time last about 90 minutes. Cost is $55 and includes bottled water, helmet and a visit to the Somers Mansion. Dahl said the company is fully insured.
