All Invited to Stroll the 14th Street Pier on Sunday

The first of three open houses celebrating the Ocean City Fishing Club's 100th anniversary is scheduled for July 7.

The Ocean City Fishing Club is continuing a year-long series of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of its founding with the first of three planned Open Houses at the club's pier on Sunday, July 7, from 3 to 5 pm.

Visitors will be welcome to stroll out on the pier at 14th Street and the Boardwalk to take photographs and enjoy the ocean breezes — but the invitation does not include fishing. Everyone who stops by during all three Open Houses is also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Ocean City Community Food Cupboard, maintained by the Ocean City Ecumenical Council, Inc.

"Our members are excited about the Centennial of the oldest, continuously operating club in the nation," said President Paul Keuerleber, of Ocean City and Hatboro, PA, “and we want to share that excitement with local residents and visitors to America's Greatest Family Resort."

The Ocean City Fishing Club was established in August 1913, when Woodrow Wilson was America’s chief executive, stainless steel had just been invented, gasoline was 8 cents a gallon, and the Panama Canal was nearing completion.

Keuerleber said the second and third Open House dates and times will coincide with Ocean City's Family Nights. They are Thursday, July 25, from 6 to 8 pm, and Thursday, August 22, from 6 to 8 pm.
