Nor'easters Storm Past New Jersey Rangers

A storm rolled through New Jersey last night and unfortunately the New Jersey Rangers defensive line was in the way of a 5-0 thumping. A 5 star performance from the Ocean City Nor'easters was exactly what the club needed as they keep they sights on the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship.

The squad that has been assembled by Coach Tim Oswald is really beginning to show its teeth with lethal finishing from Zoncher Dennis, who earned his first franchise hat trick, and Frank Tweneboa who continues to have a standout season. This result takes the Nor'easters to 3-1-0 early on but with 3 of those games being away fixtures the future looks very bright. The goal difference of plus 8 (3rd best in the nation) and 3 shutouts is the icing on the cake to a great start to 2012.

The goals started early with Frank Tweneboa scoring in the first 4 minutes, a goal that seemed to really shock the opposition like an unexpected lightning bolt. Dennis Zoncher got the first of his threesome just before half time to extinguish any thoughts the New Jersey Rangers had of getting back into this game. Unlike the previous game where the Nor'easters seemed to settle for a 2-0 home victory over the Central Jersey Spartans they pushed on to net three more. Frank Tweneboa was pulled down for a penalty kick which he duly converted, goalkeeper John McCarthy showed that Ocean City can play ugly soccer to with a real route one thump down field for the Dennis to latch onto and calmly slot past the onrushing Rangers number 1. Dennis completed his hat trick with a goal scored in transition, the final goal was evident that the Rangers, like a lot of PDL teams this season, cannot handle the pace and skill of our forward players.

Coach Oswald pointed out "We were just great in transition, very direct in the first half and troubled them with our pace all night. In the second half we slowed the game down and attacked in bursts getting behind the defence with our front
players".

The Ocean City Nor'easters play at home on Sunday June 3rd taking on the only team to beat us this year, Jersey Express.
