Nor'easters Beat Baltimore 3-1

The sun was shining on Carey Stadium for another great day of soccer in Ocean City, NJ.

The sun was shining on Carey Stadium for another great day of soccer in Ocean
City, NJ. The Nor’easters welcomed the newest franchise to the league, Baltimore
Bohemians.

The Nor’easters were on top for the first portion of the game as they but could not really find a foothold and Baltimore threatened on occasion. When the  Bohemians attacked it wasn’t in vast numbers but the players who went up were starting to worry the Nor’easters backline. Frank Tweneboa, Kevin Curran and Tapiwa Machingauta’s long throw ins continued to cause trouble up the other end.

The half finished with a number of Nor’easters set pieces bombarding the Bohemians penalty but they stood strong and it finished 0-0.

The second half started with a bang as goalkeeper John McCarthy picked up his second assist of the season. A long pass over the top of the Bohemian defense saw Frank Tweneboa latch onto the ball and calmly flick the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper. The Nor’easters add a second goal on the 63 minute mark as Markhus “Duke” Lacroix sprinted onto a Jason Plumhoff through ball and slotted it past the Bohemian keeper. With the Baltimore boys looking for a goal to have a chance of some points the game became stretched and left gaps that the Nor’easters continued to make chances through.
The Nor’easters finished off the win with another goal as Baltimore failed to clear a corner and it dropped to Blake Fink who moved the ball to his left foot and shot low into the bottom corner. Baltimore scored an injury time consolation goal through number 27 Marcus Fernandez as the game finished 3-1 to Ocean City.

It was a tough fought game and the score line did not do justice to the performance put in by the Baltimore boys.

Coach Oswald talked to us about how he saw the game, “The first half lacked energy but we really got fired up for the 2nd half. We came out motivated and that was the difference. The goals we scored were quick in transition and that is what we have worked on in training”

The MVP of the game Frank Tweneboa “I enjoy being one v one with the goalkeeper, I knew I had the speed up top and McCarthy found me with a great long pass. I just put my head down and ran to the ball and was happy to score”

The Bohemians are a wonderful professionally run outfit and it was great to finally welcome them to south Jersey. We look forward to a long friendship with our southern neighbours.
