Teens Dominate Independence Day Bay Swim
The annual open water swimming event draws more than 200 for two events.
Teenagers took 45 of the top 50 spots in the annual Independence Day Bay Swim on Friday night off Kennedy Park in Somers Point.
Some of the top age-group teams in the region — including the Jersey Wahoos of Mount Laurel — participated in the one-mile swim in the Great Egg Harbor Bay. The 2012 field of 179 swimmers was far bigger than the field of 114 in 2011, and for the first time, the event included a separate half-mile swim with another 48 swimmers (including several Special Olympics athletes).
The event raises money for the Ocean City C-Cerpants age-group swim team.
