Ocean City's Luke Demore Claims No. 1 Seed Heading Into District 32 Wrestling Tournament

He's No. 1 at 170, while Cooper Gallagher is No. 2 at 182. The tournament begins Friday night at Absegami.

Ocean City High School junior Luke Demore enters the District 32 wrestling tournament with a distinct advantage. He’s the No. 1 overall seed in his weight class.

Demore is the No. 1 seed in the 170-pound weight class, according to matchups posted by The Press of Atlantic City Thursday night.

Demore is 26-5 this season and will face the winner of the first round matchup between No. 8 Ty Coffey of Mainland and No. 9 Richie Kreischer of Oakcrest.

St. Augustine’s Jose Tabora is the No. 2 seed and James Bower of Egg Harbor Township is No. 3.

The top three finishers in each weight class advance to the Region 8 tournament, which takes place next week. The ultimate goal is a spot in the State Championship Tournament in Atlantic City in two weeks.

Cooper Gallagher begins his quest at 182 from a top-3 position, claiming the No. 2 seed. Gallagher, who is 30-1 this year, will face the winner of the first round contest between No. 6 Renzo Notch of Lower Cape May and No. 7 Juan Tinoco of Buena.

To claim the district title, Gallagher would likely have to get by No. 1 seeded James Bennett of St. Augustine. Eric Wollerman of Egg Harbor Township is the No. 3 seed.

The District 32 tournament begins Friday night at Absegami High School in Galloway, and continues Saturday.

The following is a brief look at where each Ocean City wrestler is seeded, who they will face in the first round and who the top overall seed in their weight class is.

At 106, Dustin Oves is seeded fifth and faces No. 12 Kasuhik Jobal of Atlantic City in the first round. The winner faces No. 4 Andrew Soloman of Cedar Creek. Middle Township’s Joey Curtis is the No. 1 seed.

At 113, David Levin is the eighth seeded and faces No. 9 Oscar Canelas of Atlantic City in the first round. The winner faces top seed Patrick D’Arcy of Holy Spirt.

At 126, Jeremiah Johnson is the No. 5 seed and wrestles No. 12 Andrew Brion of Cedar Creek in the first round. The winner faces No. 4 Timothy Suter of Buena Regional. Absegami’s Yanni Patsaros is the No. 1 seed.

At 132, Cameron Andres is seeded eighth and opens the tournament against No. 9 Johnathan Peres of Atlantic City. The winner faces top-seeded Brandon Curtis of Middle Township.

At 138, Shane Stack is the No. 4 seed and battles No. 5 Matthew Jiampetti of Cedar Creek to start things off. Buena’s Chaz Bramble is the No. 1 seed.

At 145, Vinny Levin enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed. He faces No. 3 Jake Maxwell of Buena in the first round. Holy Spirit’s Brandon Bower is the No. 1 seed.

At 152, Ryan Fisher is the No. 7 seed and faces off with No. 10 Matthew Moreno of Egg Harbor Township in the first round. The winner gets the No. 2 seed Mason Brestle of Buena. St. Augustine’s Jack Clark is the No. 1 seed.

At 160, Kevin Burcaw is seeded 10th and meets No. 7 Matthew Tull of Oakcrest in the first round. The winner advances to face No. 2 James Ingersol of Egg Harbor Township. St. Augustine’s Nick Clark is the top seed.

At 220, Ryan Richards is the No. 5 seed and faces No. 4 Omar Hyatt of Atlantic City in the first round. Chris Henchy of Absegami is the No. 1 seed.
