Ocean City High School senior Dom DiGiacomo was a top-5 golfer on the biggest stage in the state this week.

DiGiacomo shot a 79, 7-over-par, to finish fifth among Group III golfers at the NJSIAA High School Golf Tournament of Champions at Hopewell Valley Country Club on Monday.

He shot a 40 over the first nine holes and a 39 over the final nine, according to stats posted on nj.com.

Par on the course is 72, and only two golfers shot below that. Mike Graboyes, of Watchung Hills, shot a 70 to win the tournament, and Tom LaMorte, of Demarest, shot a 71 for second place.

“The course was very difficult with extremely fast greens,” Ocean City Golf Coach Edward Ritti said. “Dom represented OCHS well.  We received multiple compliments from other coaches and administrators regarding his play, respect, and gentlemanly demeanor.”

DiGiacomo qualified for the event by finishing fifth at last week’s South/Central Jersey Sectional Championships at Running Deer Golf Club in Pittsgrove. He shot an 81 at that event.
