Ocean City Honors Surf Team

The team is raising money for a June trip to California to seek national title.

The Ocean City Board of Education honored the Ocean City High School surf team on Wednesday (May 22) for capturing its 19th consecutive National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) championship on April 14.

The team is preparing to seek a national NSSA title in a June 15-17 competition in Dana Point, Calif.

Surfers are making arrangements to take their final exams early in order to participate in the contest. Seniors will be back in time for June 19 graduation.

The team is raising money to offset the costs of the trip.

Supporters of the team will sponsor a surfer yard sale, starting at 8 a.m. at 14th Street and Bay Avenue. The sale will feature surfboards, wetsuits, skateboards and surf apparel. The team is also working to organize a June car wash.
