Ocean City Girls Tie Mainland in Swimming

The Red Raiders come close to knocking off Mainland for first time.

The Ocean City High School girls' swim team tied rival Mainland Regional High School, 85-85, on Tuesday afternoon in Linwood.

The Ocean City girls have never defeated Mainland Regional since Cape-Atlantic League girls' swimming was created in the early 2000s.

The Red Raiders won all but one event, but Mainland used its depth to keep the meet close.

Mainland, which usually competes with the larger schools in state tournament competion, will swim in Division B this year, setting up a potential rematch with Ocean City in the playoffs. But the teams will also face close competition against Haddonfield and Moorestown in the post-season competition.

The Ocean City boys fell to Mainland, 109-60.
