OCBP Wins Women's Lifeguard Invitational

Dominating performances by Shawnee Foglio and Holly Berenotto in the row/swim and Brittany Sedberry in the paddleboard helped Ocean City Beach Patrol win the 2011 Women's Invitational at 34th Street Beach on Wednesday evening.

The competition included the top women lifeguards from 12 South Jersey beach patrols racing in five events.

Ocean City was the total points winner with 21. Wildwood Crest was second with 15, and Cape May third with 13.

The competition included a new event this year: the row/swim, in which a doubles crew rowed from the beach to a set of flags, where one rower jumped out of the boat and swam back to the beach.

Foglio and Berenotto hit the flags first, and Berenotto—a former state champion sprinter for Egg Harbor Township High School—easily stretched the lead on the swim leg.

Sedberrry took the lead from the start and cruised to an easy victory in the paddleboard.

The doubles crew of Rachel Boudart and Emma Elmer took a second place as Atlantic City took a narrow victory on a wave. Erin Curry finished third in the swim for Ocean City.
