Independence Day Bay Swim and Open Water Calendar
The 27th annual Independence Day Bay Swim will move to a new location this year.
The open-water swimming race will start and finish at Beesley's Point Sea-Doo on Friday, June 28.
The event is sponsored by the Ocean City C-Cerpants Swim Club and traditionally marks the beginning of open-water race calendar for the southern New Jersey shore region. The race has been held in recent years at Kennedy Park in Somers Point.
The event will include one-mile and half-mile races — each in a triangular course in Great Egg Harbor Bay south of the old Beesley's Point Bridge on Route 9.

The rest of the open-water calendar is as follows (click on race name for application and information):
Ocean City Masters Swim (July 20): The Masters will be held for the 34th time this year. The one-mile race is in the ocean off 34th Street in Ocean City, and directors look for favorable conditions when they choose the direction of the point-to-point swim on race day. The race is now held in the morning.
Yates Swim (August 10): After many years as an Absecon Inlet swim with a finish at Gardners Basin, the Yates has been held on the ocean side at Albany Avenue Beach in Atlantic City. It's a one-mile box course with a 6:45 p.m. start.
Atlantic City Pageant Swim (August 31): The nation's oldest continuous open water swimming race dates back to 1929. The 1.5-mile ocean course starts at Steel Pier and ends at The Pier at Caesars. It's a 9:45 a.m. start.
September Splash (Sept. 19): The race in the bay in Wildwood Crest includes quarter-mile, one-mile and two-mile swims and a paddleboard race.
