Community Art Projects is a nonprofit group that raises its own funds to create public art (the murals and sculptures that adorn once-empty walls and spaces throughout the city).

The group just dedicated a 9/11 memorial sculpture at the Ocean City Fire Department at Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue, and members have recently painted a new round of traffic-light boxes.

"Public art elevates the town," Leslie Skibo, president of Community Art Projects, said after one recent project. "It gives everybody a little lift."
