State Announces (A Little) Extra Funding for Ocean City Schools

Ocean City will see another $2,262 for teacher salaries and benefits.

The Ocean City School District will get $2,262 as part of $8.2 million in new federal funding for school districts across the state.

The additional money comes from a new federal allocation and from the state's efficient administration of the Education Jobs Act funding announced in 2010, according to a news release from the administration of Gov. Chris Christie.

Ocean City had already budgeted $72,200 in Education Jobs Act revenue for 2011-12, bringing the new total to $74,462.

"In these economic times, we are doing everything we can to make sure schools have the resources they need to be successful," acting state Education Commissioner Chris Cerf said. "Through smart planning and efficient administration, we are excited to be able to free up additional funds to send directly to districts to pay for human capital costs."

School districts have until September 2012 to use these funds for compensation, benefits and other expenses, according to the release.

Middle Township saw the largest amount of new funding among Cape May County's school districts: $14,701. Atlantic County's Pleasantville School District will see an additional $67,482.
