Schools Plan to Open for Full Week Starting Monday

Displaced families are asked to contact the school district, and classes are tentatively scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Ocean City Public Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday morning after being closed for a week during a mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Sandy.

Ocean City High School is currently without electrical power, but the return of service is expected in time for classes on Monday (Nov. 5).

Thursday and Friday (Nov. 8 and 9) had originally been scheduled as vacation days for students during the annual NJEA Teacher's Convention. But because the convention was cancelled, classes are tentatively scheduled for those two days pending official action by the Ocean City Board of Education at special meeting scheduled for 8 a.m. Monday.

The rescheduling of school days for Nov. 8 and 9 will help the district make up for losing five days of classes this week.

Any school families still displaced by the storm are asked to call 609-814-8713 now or 609-814-8720 (Mr. Ortolf) on Monday morning. The school can help coordinate transportation to Ocean City schools, arrange placement in other districts or access school services. Those in need of assistance can send an email to tgrossi@ocean.city.k12.nj.us while the phone system is down.  Beginning Monday, Nov. 5, the contact number is (609)814-8720. You can also call your city council representative who will relay the information to the schools.

Updated information is available on the Ocean City School District website.
