Primary School Marks Last Day of Classes at Assembly

The school accepted a portrait of George Washington and participated in a sing-along.

Students at the celebrated their final day of classes before summer break in an assembly that featured a sing-along, good-byes and George Washington.

The school displayed a replica portrait of George Washington that was donated by James F. Steelman in memory of his father, Hiram Steelman. Steelman is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution who would like to see a return to the days when the first American president's portrait hung in all schools.

The painting will be part of the "Freedom Shrine" at the school—an area created by the Ocean City Exchange Club where the nation's most important historic documents hang on the walls.

Primary school students said good-bye to the third-graders who will be moving on the the Intermediate School in the fall and to retiring staff members.

They also participated in a sing-along that included "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore," "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and other songs.
