Ocean City Intermediate School Hires Interim Principal

William Boyle, the interim director of Special Services for the district, has a per diem agreement through the remainder of 2011.

The Ocean City School District hired an interim principal for the Ocean City Intermediate School while it continues its search for a permanent replacement for Pamela Vaughan.

William Boyle, an educator who came out of retirement to serve as interim director of Special Services for Ocean City schools, is now working as the Intermediate School principal.

Boyle, a 61-year-old Ocean City resident, will make $350 per day. The Ocean City Board of Education approved his employment effective July 11 through Jan. 3, 2012.

Boyle has 35 years experience in public education, including 15 with the state Department of Education, where he worked with county offices supervising special education programs and in Trenton writing regulations, among other duties.

Boyle replaces Vaughan, who retired at the end of the school year and is now working as an assistant dean of education at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Boyle, whose three sons attended Ocean City public schools, said he's anxious to start work helping the Intermediate School regain the title of New Jersey "School to Watch," to help implement new state harassment and bullying policies and to welcome five new faculty members to the staff (a school nurse, guidance counselor, two seventh-grade teachers and a fifth-grade teacher).

An orientation for fourth-graders entering the Intermediate School (and parents) is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. New students in other grades have a 10:30 p.m. orientation Aug. 25.

The school district continues to advertise for applicants for the permanent principal's position.
