Jon Batastini Running as Write-In for School Board

Only two candidates are on the ballot to fill three seats for full Board of Education terms.

In an open letter to Ocean City voters, Jon D. Batastini asks them to vote in-column where he's on the ballot vying to fill an unexpired term. But he also asks voters to write-in his name to fill a full three-year term.

The ballot includes only two candidates to fill three seats for full terms.

Batastini's letter is as follows (and also attached as a PDF):

Dear Friends:

As many of you know, I am running for the Ocean City School Board. I am excited about the opportunity to serve as a Board Member — to be an integral part of our Board who serve selflessly to facilitate our children’s education and extracurricular activities.

I am committed to new scholastic curriculums in our schools that will benefit our children. I am dedicated to providing safe facilities and grounds for our children’s education, athletics and extracurricular activities. I support cost efficient and effective use of new technologies to broaden the educational opportunities for the scholastic growth of our children.

As you may know, the Board of Education adopts policies under which the school district operates; oversees the budget; approves the curriculum; hires and evaluates the superintendent; represents the public during contract negotiations; and serves as a communications link between the community and the school system. Unique experiences in work, education and community organizations have taught me the importance of being open-minded, a team player and most importantly, a vigorous advocate.

Indeed, I am a firm believer education is the building block to a well-rounded individual. I am fortunate to have achieved a B.S. in Environmental Science, a M.S. in Industrial Hygiene and a J.D. in Law. As a result, I have had several diverse employment experiences in the environmental, health and safety industry, in addition to the practice of law that will aid me in fulfilling the various duties as a member of the Board. As a current Board Member of the Ocean City Free Public Library, Board Member of the Friends of the Ocean City Pops and former President of the Ocean City Exchange Club, I understand both the business and policy-making roles a Board Member must have to be productive.

Please feel free to e-mail me at jon@lgblaw.com or call my cell at 609-827-4786 if you have any questions about my willingness and commitment to building the Ocean City School District into the most cost efficient and effective educational system that our children and community deserve. I remain,

Very truly yours,
Jon D. Batastini
