Absegami Football Team Downs Mainland in Overtime

The Braves scored in the fourth quarter and overtime for the come-from-behind win. Ocean City fell to 0-3.

The Absegami High School football team pulled off a come-from-behind victory in overtime to defeat Mainand Regional, 14-7, in Cape-Atlantic League play Friday night, Sept. 21.

The win improved the Braves’ record to 2-1, while Mainland fell to 1-2.

Mike Dolan was responsible for the winning score, carrying the ball in from 1 yard out in overtime. It capped a second half comeback after the Braves fell behind, 7-0, in the second quarter when the Mustangs’ Tom Bradway scored on a 14-yard run.

Tyler Bing tied the game for the Braves in the fourth quarter with a 6-yard run into the end zone to force the extra session.

Absegami visits Millville next Friday night, Sept. 28, 7 p.m.

BRIDGETON 28, OCEAN CITY 14: The Red Raiders fell behind early and never recovered, remaining winless on the season.

Frank Woolley had both scores for Ocean City, and has all four Ocean City scores this year. He scored on a 50-yard run in the first quarter, after the Bulldogs already took a 14-0 lead. Woolley scored again in the third quarter.

Woolley also scored both of Ocean City’s touchdowns in last week’s 27-12 loss to Buena. The Red Raiders host St. Augustine next Friday night, Sept. 28, 7 p.m.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP 31, HAMMONTON 28: The Eagles broke a 28-28 tie with a 40-yard field goal from Tom Mason in the fourth quarter. Kenny Doughty scored two 1-yard rushing touchdowns, and his 43-yard pass to Calvin Rice in the fourth quarter tied the game. David Williams scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards for the Blue Devils.

Egg Harbor Township improved to 2-1, while it was the first loss of the season for Hammonton (2-1).

PENNSVILLE 47, WILDWOOD 28: Wesley Hills and Devon Bradshaw each had two touchdowns in the loss for the Warriors. It was Wildwood’s first loss of the season.
