Junior Raiders Peewee Team Falls to Mays Landing in Playoffs

The Ocean City Junior Raiders Peewee team lost 26-7 to the Mays Landing Lakers on Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the second round of the Atlantic County Junior Football League playoffs. The game was played at a neutral site at Hammonton Lake Park in Hammonton, NJ.

The Junior Raiders started the game off strong, forcing a quick three and out.  As the first half wore on, the Junior Raiders were controlling both sides of the line of scrimmage.  While the team was able to get its running game going between the tackles, it never could get its outside running game going that had been potent all year.  A couple of big plays by the Mays Landing offense lifted them to a 14-0 halftime lead over the Junior Raiders, including a well-executed post pass for a long touchdown.

The Junior Raiders took the second half kickoff and marched methodically downfield for almost the entire 3rd quarter.  The long drive was capped by a short touchdown run by Sean Mazitelli and extra point by Jacob Wilson to cut the lead to 14-7.  The squad fought hard in the second half, playing very well, but two more big plays in the fourth quarter by Mays Landing concluded the scoring, leading to the final of 26-7.  The coaches commented that the offensive line played well all day and was able to open up holes in the middle.
