Wilson Files for City Council Seat

Ocean City's Tony Wilson seeks the seat vacated by Susan Sheppard. Flood will not seek election.

Lifelong Ocean City resident Tony Wilson became the first candidate to announce he will seek the City Council seat currently held by John Flood.

Wilson, 42, filed his petition with City Clerk Linda MacIntyre to run for the 3rd Ward seat.

Flood was appointed to replace Susan Sheppard, who had to give up the seat when she became a Cape May County freeholder in January. Flood said at the outset he would not seek election to the post.

Wilson is the first candidate to formally announce his candidacy for the Nov. 8 election, a special city election spurred by Sheppard's departure. The deadline for filing is Sept. 6. If successful, Wilson will have to run again in the city's regular May election.

Wilson filed his petition at the city clerk’s office at 10 a.m. Tuesday, surrounded by his family. He pledged, if elected, to work hard to keep Ocean City’s family values intact, to keep an open dialogue between residents and City Council, and to maintain fiscal responsibility.
