Two to Run for Third Ward Seat on City Council

The Nov. 8 winner will serve six months to finish the unexpired term of Sue Sheppard.

Two candidates met the 4 p.m. Sept. 6 deadline to run for City Council as representatives of the city's Third Ward.

Dr. Steven Fenichel and Tony Wilson have submitted nominating petitions and will run in Nov. 8 general election to fill the unexpired term of Sue Sheppard.

Sheppard stepped down from council when she took office as a Cape May County freeholder on Jan. 1, 2011. Her council term expires with the municipal election of May 2012.

John Flood was appointed by City Council to serve until the Nov. 8 election, when voters can choose their own replacement. The November winner will serve for about six months until the spring municipal election for a full four-year term.

Fenichel when it appointed Flood as a replacement. The local physician, 64, has been known for his passionate support of causes from the legalization of medical marijuana to the establishment of health-care as a right for all Americans. But he emphasizes the importance of dialogue in government.

Wilson last month. The 42-year-old co-owner of Wilson Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning pledged, if elected, to work hard to keep Ocean City’s family values intact, to keep an open dialogue between residents and City Council, and to maintain fiscal responsibility.
