Tony Wilson Elected as City Council President

City Council in Ocean City chooses its officers at annual reorganization meeting on Monday.

City Council unanimously elected Tony Wilson on Monday to serve a one-year term as council president.

The vote came at the City Council reorganization meeting at noon July 1 at the Ocean City Free Public Library.

Wilson succeeds Michael Allegretto, who had served three years as council president. Allegretto will serve as vice president for the next year. He was chosen in another unanimous vote on Monday.

Wilson, 43, was first elected to City Council in a special election in November 2011 to complete the unexpired term of Susan Sheppard, who resigned when she was elected as a Cape May County freeholder. Wilson won a full four-year term as Third Ward councilman in May 2012. He served as council vice president last year.

A graduate of Ocean City High School and La Salle University, Wilson is the owner of C. Leo Wilson Plumbing, Heating, and A/C.

Ocean City holds nonpartisan elections in the spring, and council members serve terms that begin on July 1 and end on June 30. Council meets July 1 every year to choose a president and vice president.

At the reorganization meeting, City Council also chose Second Ward Councilman Antwan McClellan to represent council on the Ocean City Planning Board and Michael DeVlieger to be representative to the Utility Advisory Commission.
