Tony Wilson Announces Run to Retain Third Ward Seat on City Council

Wilson was elected in November to complete the unexpired term of Sue Sheppard.

City Councilman Tony Wilson announced Tuesday that he will run for a full four-year term in the seat he now holds representing the Third Ward.

Wilson was to complete the unexpired term of Sue Sheppard, who left City Council when she was elected as a Cape May County freeholder.

Wilson filed his petition at the City Clerk’s Office at 10 a.m. Monday.

Four seats on the seven-member City Council will be decided in the municipal election on May 8. The seats represent the city's four wards. The deadline for City Council candidates to submit petitions is March 5. The Third Ward includes all addresses between the south side of 12th Street and the north side of 26th Street.

In a news release, Wilson pledged, if re-elected, "to continue working hard to keep Ocean City’s family values intact, to continue an open dialogue between residents and City Council, and to maintain fiscal responsibility. "

“Since being elected to City Council in November, I have been committed to representing the concerns of the residents of the Third Ward,” Wilson said.  “If re-elected, I plan to continue to be engaged and focused on the challenges facing the Third Ward, and working hard to achieve favorable results that will positively impact the Third Ward and the city on a whole.” 

Wilson is a lifelong resident of Ocean City and 1988 graduate of Ocean City High School, where he served as president of his class.  He earned an organizational behavior degree from La Salle University in 1992.  He is now co-owner of Wilson Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning, a family business originally started by his father 40 years ago.

Wilson is an active member of the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce, where he sits on the board of directors. He is a member of the Ocean City Exchange Club and an active member of the Rainbow Fishing Club of Ocean City.

Tony and his wife, Melissa, have two children, Tony (11) and Julia (8), who attend Ocean City schools. 

In the Fourth Ward, Councilman Roy Wagner will not seek re-election, and and have announced their candidacy. No candidates in the First or Second wards have publicly announced their intentions yet.
