Second Readings for Boardwalk Smoking Ban, Marina Rehabilitation Project Set for Thursday
Thursday night's meeting is the final one for the current council.
A ban on smoking on the boardwalk and a $2.6 million bond ordinance for the rehabilitation of a site that once housed Dan's Dockside Marina and Restaurant will be considered as the current version of Ocean City Council meets for the final time.
Council will consider on second reading an amendment to the ordinance banning smoking in parks and recreational areas to include the boardwalk, and the ramps and stairs leading up to the boardwalk at its meeting at city hall Thursday night, 7 p.m.
The amendment was proposed by Councilman Scott Ping, who was hoping the whole boardwalk would be included when the initial ordinance was initially proposed.

Ping is serving his last meeting as a council member. He decided not to run for re-election earlier this year. The new council will be sworn in on July 1.
Ping was first elected in 2006, and re-elected in 2010.

Council will also consider borrowing $2.6 million for the redevelopment of Dan’s Dockside Marina and Restaurant on the 900 block of Palen Avenue. The property would be redeveloped by a group led by Thomas and Beverly Gill, who previously owned the property from 1997-2000.
The arrangement is made possible by the New Jersey Redevelopment and Housing Law, which allows a governing body to engage in the redevelopment of a piece of land when it is clear conditions are not likely to be improved solely through the efforts of a private group.
There are 15 items on the consent agenda, including a resolution to advertise for a library roof restoration project, a change order for the city’s Fall Road Improvement Program, the supply and installation of decorative poles downtown and two shared services agreements with the county.
Council is also set to appoint James V. Mallon as Ocean City Housing Authority liaison. The Housing Authority recently saw the resignation of three members, including their former chairman and vice chairman.
