Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian and Consul General Mario DeLeon, Jr. of the Philippines, will discuss the ongoing relationship between Ocean City and its sister city San Jose Occidental Mindoro of the Philippines this weekend.

They will do so as the two help open the Fifth Annual Tribute to the Philippines Saturday morning in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, 10 a.m.

The two will discuss the assistance Ocean City provided to San Jose Occidental Mindoro following the recent storms.

Entertainment will follow at that location featuring Filipino dancers, singers and instrumentalists.

Ocean City also came to the aid of its sister city following a powerful typhoon in 2012.

They have been sister cities since 2010

Did we receive aid from the Philippines following Sandy?

Does OC need a sister city that we keep funding? Can I be a sister to OC and they give me money? Our fine govt officials giving away money that is not theirs.

We need to stop giving away money to foreign countries until our own "house" is in order. This is a national problem.

This is the kind of time-wasting stuff the local governments keep doing while they ignore pressing issues that fester over long periods. You have a long thread about people being upset over how the mayor's inspectors are interpreting Council's confusing ordinances. Instead they sit around doing feel-good stuff and never address the real issues of people rebuilding from Sandy.
