Letter From Mayor: Ocean City Fun Doesn't End With Labor Day

In his weekly update to citizens, Mayor Jay Gillian invites everybody to experience what Ocean City offers in the fall.

August 30, 2013

Dear Friends:

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day Weekend is here.  It seems like just a few days ago that we cut a mile long ribbon on the boardwalk to commemorate the opening of the Jersey Shore for the summer season.  I hope the season added many good Ocean City memories for you and your family.

While Labor Day marks the end of the season for some towns, we’re gearing up for our “Second Season,” what many find to be the very best time of year to experience “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”

Our residents and visitors alike enjoy wonderful year-round shopping, great restaurants and family-friendly special events. Many of our special events have been held for decades, while new and exciting programs are always added as well.

September alone will offer Street Rods, the largest Corvette Show in the region, the Airport Festival, the Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow, the Ocean City Half Marathon and 5K Run and much more.  The events continue right through our First Night celebration on New Year’s Eve.

Many people find the “Second Season” to be the perfect time to enjoy a concert at the historic Music Pier and other local venues.

In addition to the events, concerts and other fun, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything else Ocean City has to offer this fall. Explore the bayfront, bike ride the boardwalk, take a long walk on the beach, shop in Downtown Ocean City – the possibilities are endless!

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Warm Regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
