City Officials Discuss Skate Park Twice in Three Days

City officials spent time over the weekend reassuring residents nothing was set in stone as far as the new skate park is concerned, even as a resolution is considered for Thursday night's council meeting, ocnjdaily.com reports.

The proposed location for the skate park is the 500 block of Asbury Avenue. The city must apply for Green Acres Cape May County Recreation Grant money for the park by April 15, and Thursday's meeting provides the final opportunity council to approve a resolution to seek grant money before the deadline.

The city already set aside $250,000 toward for the proposed $750,000 project, and is now seeking grant money and private donations for the rest of the funding.

In an effort to get information out to the public, council dedicated its workshop session last Thursday night to the topic, and Councilman Antwan McClellan hosted a meeting Saturday morning at the Eighth Street Recreation Center with residents of the neighborhood.

According to the report, about 25 residents attended the meeting led by McClellan, Councilman Keith Hartzell and City Business Administrator Mike Dattilo.

Residents raised concerns about parking, as well as the effect on the Primary School during the school day and safety, among other issues, according to the report.

The City could begin work later this year and have the project completed next year, according to the report.

However, officials assured residents the site was not finalized, according to the report. A proposed final location is a necessary part of the grant application.
