City Council Budget Workshops Postponed to Feb. 19 and 20

The work sessions give the public a glimpse of budget details before they become final.

The City Council budget workshops scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday (Jan. 29 and 30) have been changed to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, and Thursday, Feb. 20 at at the Ocean City Free Public Library.

The workshops include presentations and discussions on anticipated revenue and expenses budgeted for the next fiscal year. The workshops are open to the public and include the opportunity to comment.

A planned introduction of the draft 2014 municipal budget scheduled for Jan. 23 was postponed by two weeks. Mayor Jay Gillian's administration had hoped to bring the budget to City Council earlier than usual this year. But Finance Director Frank Donato was still waiting on numbers from the state, and the city's response to last week's snowstorm also took time away from final preparations, Mayor Jay Gillian said.

The introduction is the first step in a process that leads to the final approval of a budget in the spring.
