Citizen Volunteer Positions Available on Shade Tree and Utilities Committees

Each opening is for a four-year term and the filing deadline is March 12.

There are two vacancies open on local boards for citizen volunteers.

Positions became available on the Shade Tree Committee and the Utility Advisory Committee, city officials announced this week.

The Shade Tree Committee is made up of seven members appointed by the mayor with the advice of council, according to the city’s website.

The committee is involved in the “regulation, planting, planning and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery on any public street, park or property” in the city. It meets the fourth Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. at the Henry S. Knight Building. 

The Utility Advisory Committee is made up of 11 members appointed by city council. Its purpose is to interact and communicate with utility organizations, including electric , gas , water, sewer and cable television companies as well as municipal utility authorities, “for the purposes of advising the City Council of issues of public importance concerning rate schedules, service and other related subjects.”

It meets the third Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. at the Henry S. Knight building.

The filing deadline is March 12.
