South Jersey Native Charged in LAX Shootings Released From Hospital

Details about his location and custody status have not been revealed. No court date has been set.

Paul Ciancia, the Pennsville native charged with murder in connection with the shooting at Los Angeles International Airport earlier this month, is out of the hospital and in the custody of federal officials.

Ciancia, 23, is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, according Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

The office was not providing information concerning his custody status or location.

No court date has been set.

Ciancia had been hospitalized in critical condition since exchanging fire with police at the airport on Nov. 1. He’s been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of TSA agent Gerardo Hernandez.

Ciancia is the subject of a federal complaint charging him with murder of a federal officer and commission of violence in an international airport.He faces the possibility of life in prison or the death penalty for each count.

It was previously reported that Ciancia used a .223 caliber MP-15 assault rifle to shoot Hernandez and others in the incident.

Ciancia is a Pennsville native who attended Ciancia at Salesianum School in Wilmington, Del., where a classmate said Ciancia was bullied in 2008.

His neigbors described his family as quiet, and mostly keeping to themselves. His father owns Salem County Collision.

He moved to California about a year and a half ago, according to Pennsville Police Chief Allen J. Cummings.
