Police Warn of Callers Trying to Dupe Downtown Businesses

Ocean City police say the callers are posing as utility company representatives collecting on unpaid bills.

The Ocean City Police Department is warning downtown business owners and employees to be wary of bogus calls from somebody posing as a utility company representative seeking payment on overdue bills.

Police have received two reports in the past few days with businesses describing the same type of call, according to Ocean City Police Capt. Steve Ang. Neither of the businesses took the bait.

Police are asking business owners and Ocean City residents to disregard such calls, to not divulge confidential information to callers and to not send money to any unverified address before calling police.

Call 609-399-9111 if you receive any similar call.
