Police Seek Help in Stopping Late-Night Vandals

Ocean City has seen about 20 car windows smashed by landscaping rocks since June.

A streak of vandalism that started in June with somebody using landscaping rocks to shatter the windshields of parked cars has continued in July and August with about 20 vehicles damaged to date.

__________

Police ask anybody with information on these incidents to call 609-399-9111.
__________

The initial incidents — about 11 in June — took place between 28th and 34th streets in Ocean City. But the most recent crimes have occurred in an expanded range between 12th and 50th streets.

Each case of vandalism has occurred late at night, according to Ocean City Police Capt. Steven Ang.

Police are using extra personnel on foot and bicycle, and plain-clothes officers to patrol the areas where the crimes occurred, but they are asking for the help of the public as well.

The police department is encouraging anyone with information about these incidents to contact the Detective Bureau at (609) 399-9111. The investigation is ongoing, and police are trying to find video surveillance from homes or businesses in the area that may have recorded these acts of vandalism.

I believe the culprit that has been committing these crimes of vandalism has been apprehended not in Ocean City, NJ, but in Ocean City, MD on August 25th 2012. It was my vehicle that was vandalized at 12:40AM while parked in front of the Maridel Hotel. Hotel security heard my car alarm sounding as Nicholas M Maher was smashing out the back window of my 1994 Cadillac Brougham using handfuls of small landscaping rocks which he also used to grind into the surface of the car's decklid and roof. When the security officer approached Maher and asked him what he was doing, Maher laughed and said he was waiting for the police to show up. The police did show up.

Maher was arrested by the Ocean City Police Department (arrest case #2012-007476) and has a court case in Worcester County courts on December 4th, 2012 - District Case #1i88341. I strongly urge anybody who is a victim of these acts of violence in the Ocean City, N.J. area to look into this matter on their own as my attempts to get the attention of the local police in both the Ocean City, MD and the Ocean City, NJ to look into the possibility that this Maher is the one responsible for these acts of vandalism in both areas was met with little interest. What little I have been able to learn about him is that he is 25, and had the financial ability to stay at the $400+ per night Hilton Hotel in Ocean City, MD. I even have one of the landscape rocks he used to cause over $1,500 damage to my company car. Anybody interested to get in touch with me for more information may do so by sending an email to notswift@yahoo.com
