Police Seek Help in Stopping Late-Night Vandals

Ocean City has seen about 20 car windows smashed by landscaping rocks since June.

A streak of vandalism that started in June with somebody using landscaping rocks to shatter the windshields of parked cars has continued in July and August with about 20 vehicles damaged to date.

The initial incidents — about 11 in June — took place between 28th and 34th streets in Ocean City. But the most recent crimes have occurred in an expanded range between 12th and 50th streets.

Each case of vandalism has occurred late at night, according to Ocean City Police Capt. Steven Ang.

Police are using extra personnel on foot and bicycle, and plain-clothes officers to patrol the areas where the crimes occurred, but they are asking for the help of the public as well.

The police department is encouraging anyone with information about these incidents to contact the Detective Bureau at (609) 399-9111. The investigation is ongoing, and police are trying to find video surveillance from homes or businesses in the area that may have recorded these acts of vandalism.
