Police Make Arrests in Burglaries, Thefts and Assaults

Ocean City police report six arrests in a string of alleged crimes June 5 to 12.

The Ocean City Police Department has been busy in the second week of June with arrests connected to a series of alleged burglaries, thefts and assaults.

The cases are as follows:

  • Mary E. Card, 55, of Ocean City, was charged with burglary and criminal attempt on June 5. Police said a resident of a home on the 600 block of Asbury Avenue reported somebody trying to break into the occupied home. Card was located and taken into custody at a property next door.
  • A warrant is out for the arrest of Sean P. Niblic of Ocean City. Police said $5,000 in cash was taken June 6 during a burglary at the Boardwalk Peanut Shoppe on the 900 block of Boardwalk. Anybody with information on where Niblic may be should call the Police Department at 609-399-9111.
  • Two 18-year-olds from Southampton, PA, Giovanni A. Lancelloti and Jake M. Topley, are charged with burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, obstruction of law, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Police said they arrived at a dwelling on the 1000 block of Ocean Avenue while an alleged burglary was still in progress. They said the K-9 Deuce helped find the two suspects hiding in a third-floor bedroom.
  • Meghan Smith, 36, of Ocean City, is charged with theft in relation to an alleged crime June 12 at the Super Fresh at Eighth Street and West Avenue. Police said store employees chased a woman who had taken a customer's purse. Police said Lisa Rumer (a supervisor in the city's Community Services and Recreation Department) witnessed the suspect dropping the purse in the alley behind the Ocean Pharmacy at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue, and a seasonal police officer later detained the suspect nearby on Asbury Avenue.
  • Jeffrey Atkins, 37, of Ocean City, is charged with aggravated assault after allegedly attacking two people with a weapon: a 25-pound dumbbell. Police said the incident took place June 12 on the 900 block of Wesley Avenue. The victims received only minor injuries and identified the suspect.
