Ocean City Man Found Dead on Avalon Beach

The man is identified as 26-year-old Brett Fitzpatrick.

A dead body found on the beach early on New Year's Day has been identified as Brett Fitzpatrick, 25, of Ocean City, according to an NBC40 news report.

Fitzpatrick was a member of the Avalon Beach Patrol. Authorities have not identified a cause of death, but the investigation is being handled by the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office.

On Thursday afternoon, the prosecutor said Avalon police were called to the 23rd Avenue Beach at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 1 after a report of a body at the water’s edge. Investigators confirmed the identity of the man as Brett Fitzpatrick. 

The Major Crimes Unit of the Prosecutor's Office and detectives from the Avalon Police Department interviewed several friends of the victim who had been with him recently. 

The investigation continues and an autopsy is pending.
